Good shootin'....and good eatin' pretty soon. Cowboy and I went out yesterday. The raggedy-ass deformed horn buck that was behind the house a few days ago wandered out in the field between Cowboy and me. I didn't see it and he didn't want to shoot in my general direction, but when he climbed down out of his lockon stand, the buck veered off and meandered across the fence into the pasture where I was. I looked back behind the tree where my ladder stand was located and saw it coming about 150 yards out. I had plenty of time to stand up and turn around and when the old Swede spoke he went down quickly.
I like to let the carcass hang for a day or so if it's not too warm, then quarter it and carefully cut out the backstraps and tenderloins. That will happen tomorrow. Gonna show Cowboy how to let the remaining blood leach out and remove all the hair so that there's none to scorch in the pan as the meat is cooked. Speaking of Cowboy......another TWWD event has occurred. I got a call from Jeanie two or three days ago wanting to know if he might be interested in a roofing job in Grove. I called him, he called Jeanie, and he has a contract to re-roof a big house down there. To make things even nicer, Frank and Jeanie are going to let him bunk at there place while he works on the house. Big thumbs up for that!
