"The Walleye Song," of course! As recorded by the Hula Poppers on Shadow records in 1986. Lyrics by Richard A. Lewis & Larry Hayes; sung to the tune of "Rawhide" by Dimitri Tiompkin.

"Trollin', trollin', trollin'..."

Surely you remember THAT????

...otherwise Skynyrd and Neil Young would be my recommendation. Stay away from Nasal Norman and the Nine Nosepickers and all other country-type stuff--walleyes think it's unnatural, which it is.

I find they like sports, particularly St Louis Cardinals games. Especially this time of year when they are only one of 8 teams still playing.

I just load up the Sirius boombox and leave it on the 50's and early 60's rock n roll.
Makes BB and TR kinda nervous, but I can sing along and it doesn't seem to scare the walleyes. That also works well if I want to come in and my fishing partner wants to stay out. A little vocal accompanyment gets the boat headed to the dock every time.

BTW, here are the lyrics to the walleye song...sung to the "rawhide" theme.

-------------------------------

Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin', Walleye
Trollin', trollin' trollin'

Lakes and streams are swollen
Fingers nearly frozen, Walleye
Through wind and rainy weather
We're in this boat together
Six packs, lures and leeches by our side
I've been drowning shiners
Searching with depth finders
Tryin' to get a big one on the line

CHORUS: Bait 'em up, cast 'em out
Cast 'em out, bait 'em up
Bait 'em up, cast 'em out, Walleye
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up
Fry 'em up, gut 'em out
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up, Walleye

Keep movin', movin', movin'
Though they're disapprovin'
We'll find out where they're schoolin', Walleye
My heart is contemplatin'
A big fish that's a-waitin'
Waitin' at the end of my line
Don't try to understand 'em
Just set the hook and land 'em
Soon we'll be listenin' to 'em fry

Bait 'em up, cast 'em out
Cast 'em out, bait 'em up
Bait 'em up, cast 'em out, Walleye
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up
Fry 'em up, gut 'em out
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up, Walleye

(lead guitar solo)

Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin', Walleye

Here is another walleye song I found while Googling:

Walleye Master Song

©, 1998 Mike Saresky

Sang to the tune “Rough Riders In The Sky”

Verse 1:

One dark and cloudy morning

You head across the lake

Your mission it is simple

Hog walleye you must take

The Master he is with you

Sitting at your side

It won’t be long

You will be catching hog walleye

Chorus:

Walleye … Hog Walleye …

The Master he is with you

Catching hog Walleye

Verse 2:

A rocky point awaits you

The walleye’s they are near

He idles down the motor

And shifts it into rear

The rod is swiftly bending

The master sets the hook

Another hog walleye

For the record book

Repeat Chorus:

Verse 3:

The day is nearly over

The fishing it is done

The Master he has shown you

That walleye catchings fun

Let’s fire up the skillet

And powder the fillets

Prepare the peach cobbler

And the carrots we will glaze

Repeat Chorus:

Verse 4:

It’s time to tell the stories

About walleye big and small

To cherish all the memories

And share them with all

Fishing with the master

Is as good as it can be

I’ll be back next year

To build more memories

Final Chorus:

Walleye … Hog Walleye …

The Master he is with you

Catching Hog Walleye

Walleye … Hog Walleye

The Master He is with you

Catching Hog Walleye

And yet another, but I don't know the melody to this one:

Big Fat Walleye
(by Bret Hesla)

1. Early in the morning, I load up my canoe.
Only one thing is gonna break these blues.

Chorus:
I want a Big Fat Walleye.
I want a Big Fat Walleye.
I've got a sinker on a spoon,
And I'm trolling from the morning
To the late afternoon.

2. Got my boat. Got my gear.
Got my buddy Larry.
Only one thing isn't here
(and that's a Big Fat Walleye…Chorus)

3. All day gray, all day drizzle.
Don't mind getting wet
If I get to hear the sizzle
(of a Big Fat Walleye....Chorus)

4. Tossin' and a-turning
All through the night
I didn't sleep a wink
Cause I was dreaming of a fight
(With a Big Fat Walleye …Chorus)

5. Don't want beef, no chicken,
no pork.
Don't give me no tofu on my fork.
(Chorus)

6. (new verse)
Don't want to see the president
Don't want to see the pope
Don't want to see the "guv"
But I want to see the body
(of a Big Fat Walleye…Chorus).

No, meat man, walleyes are NORTHERN fish lost in southern waters. Play some nordern music, like a good polka der, and dey're bound to come running, ya know der hey. Sounds of home, ya know.

Hey.

Now, I do remember having to listen to RAP music in the boat with my husband? Don't let him lie to you about George Jones and Merle Haggard. They bite better with the bass of Hip Hop and Rap!

There is no such thing as a good polka.

A little Allman Brothers or SRV would be good. If it's northern tunes ya want, crank up da Nuge! When your fishing the Bull, play some Black Oak.

I've seen BOA. Warmed up Blue Oyster Cult in Madison. One of the shining moments of my life--I passed out twice.

Great concert!

There is one good polka: "In Heaven There Is No Beer"...
