Halloween Morning Buck (7 replies)

Had a great hunt last weekend! The day started out watching a majestic 10 pt working a scrape line going away from me. A couple of soft grunts turned him and had him coming back in my direction. As he slowly closed the gap in distance to my stand, his attention was drawn away looking down into a wooded ravine just 25 yrds shy of my post. He was just two steps short of clearing the limb that was keeping us from our final appointment. A couple of steps to his right, he disapeared into the ravine being swallowed up by the thicket.

For the next 10 minutes, my attention was completely focused on the corner of the CRP where it joined the wooded ravine. Movement to my opposite side drew my attention. A doe moving quickly along the fence line, blew past my first shooting lane with fawn in tow. Much to my delite, another form was moving in pursuit, following the same line of direction.

Much to my satisfaction, it was a mature buck following in pursuit trying to secure his rites for breeding. With only seconds to spare, I was able to reposition my bow to the opposite side of the tree. At 15 yards and closing, my bow barely drawn, the buck went right through my first shooting lane. The second shooting lane was established with only milliseconds to spare, the release was touched off, the arrow was in flight threading its way between the top two strands of barbed wire. Contact!!!! The arrow found its home right behind the left front shoulder.

The buck ran, going up the incline of the CRP. At 40 yards the buck started to make a circle. He then started going back in the opposite direction, lost his balance, and plunged to the earth finding his final resting place. He was down!!!!

The morning was completed by a smaller 5 pt buck that was in pusuit of the mature buck. The younger of the two stood in confusion looking back and forth between the buck that was laid to rest and the direction of the disapearing doe. He didn't know what to do. With time passing, the young buck decided to retreat back in the direction that he came.

This is not the best pic, but it is the only one that would fit do to file sizes.

duckguy

Awesome Experience! (1 reply)

I am currently in Louisville Kentucky at the Marriot. I am here with a group from the school called PLANT ( Professional Landcare Network I am attending the Green Industry Expo (GIC) All it is, is a giant lawn and garden show but the head guys from all the lawn mower companies, and very successful landscapers from all around. Its a really good experience. There is a complete outside area where you can test drive all the equipment. There is everything from mowers to remote control skid steers, and remote control lawn mowers. Also there are indoor exhibits, At the one of the booths there was David Hale, Harold Knight passing out Turkey Calls and signing pictures. I was also able to get a picture with the two of them. Around the corner at the Hustler Mower booth was Richard Petty I got him to sign my cast shoe and a picture and also got a picture. Tonight there was a concert with two artist, the first band I missed but was able to make it for the Main Even, most of you would know him Eddie Money. It was a great show. Tomorrow nights concerts are The Grass Roots, and The Blues Brothers. I no its not walleye but thought it would be cool to share!

[attachment 1517 15335_1171161361580_1304370198_30588069_17881_n.jpg]

[attachment 1518 15335_1171180482058_1304370198_30588093_1296350_n.jpg]

Farming For Wildlife (3 replies)

Over the past two years I have really got into farming for wildlife. How many of you guys farm for wildlife rather then just farm? to me farming for wildlife is a much more enjoyment then farming for cattle, or horses. I have really gottoninto food plots and what type of seeds to plant and what time of year. How do you guys feel about farming for wildlife? What steps do you take to produce more and better deer on your farm? This is one thingI want to do when I get older, is get a piece of property and specifically farm it for wildlife, including deer, turkey, and even some of the varmints that aren't pest. Any input would be great since this is something I am learning, and trying to become better at.

Thanks
Jr.

I have found a mechanical I plan on sticking with. The 100 grain Grim Reaper razor tip 1 3/8 cut diameter is one phenominal head. I have taken 2 whitetails a year with it along with ALOT of antelope. This broadhead has never failed me in any way what so ever. It has penetrated shoulders with no prob. I have also had complete pass trhoughs on a majority of the animals shot, along with this antelope doe. The doe was quartering to me and I shot through her left shoulder and the arrow exited right in front of her right ham. Absolute awesome broadhead! Try it.

Supposedly killed in Gurdon, Arkansas. Don't see any entrance or exit wounds so don't know if it was a bow or gun kill. I have heard of piebald colored deer but the first time I had ever seen one. Can't see it in the photo but it is a nice 8 pointer with long brow tines.

b2

I saw 3 different bucks between 4p and dark. I have also seen bucks hit on the roadside early in the morning (alive & dead). Lundone just told me he witnessed a buck/doe breeding recently in his yard. Anyone have any reports? I have already filled my buck tag so of course all the doe's are nowhere to be found. What are the odds.:rage:

wicked broad heads (15 replies)

I got a deer night before last, nothing special just meat, what did impress me was the rage broad head, I'm not much on hyped up new crap but I've had some trusted friends talk pretty highly of them for the past two years , so I tried them out,the arrow went clean through and preformed as advertised,I used the two blade which left a wicked three in. hole going in and coming out, pretty thick brush were I made the shot so I lost sight of the deer in 20 yrds, gave the deer some time to bleed and went after the arrow and recover the deer, I couldn't have flung more blood out of a bucket! the easiest blood trail I've seen the deer went only 35/40 yrds and piled up . I'm now pretty sold on them, opens up a hole that you could drive ken worth through, also dug a trench through a rib, without damage to the blades ! I should mention also that I'm poor boying it with a 15 year old Jennings bow with a 55lb. draw and aluminum 21/17 arrows, would love to see a faster modern bow and carbon arrows fling the rage at a deer !
